Featured Alumni Profile: Mike Flood
We recently interviewed Mike Flood, a 1995 graduate from Illinois and an active alumnus of the Beta Upsilon chapter of DTD. He is the current Vice President of Policy and Research of the CRE Financial Council in Washington D.C. and attributes success back to being a member of Beta Upsilon. Below he lists why he joined Greek life at Illinois, his favorite DTD memories, and more!
Q: What made you want to become involved in Greek Life at the University of Illinois?
A: It is a large part of the culture and both my father and sister enjoyed their time in the Greek system at Illinois.
Q: What made you choose to join Delta Tau Delta among other chapters at Illinois?
A: Delts were very laid back and didn’t take themselves too seriously (which was the opposite of me at the time).
Q: Were you involved in any other organizations or activities on campus as an undergrad?
A: I had enough trouble keeping my grades in line.
Q: What is your favorite memory from being a member of DTD?
A: The Animal House Chi-Omega party, Star-Wars sheets, Delta Gamma shieking, La Bamba apartments and year-end bar crawls.
Q: What is the most important lesson you learned from being a brother in DTD?
A: Not to take life too seriously – and how to take a joke.
Q: What successes have you had since graduation and how has your experience in DTD influenced them?
A: Probably how to interact with such a large group of people.
Q: Please provide a brief update on what is going on in your life. (family, career, milestones, etc.)
A: I’ve been married for two years and I work for a commercial real-estate association in Washington, DC. My wife and I just bought our first house about a year ago.
Q: Do you have advice for brothers who are still undergraduates at Illinois?
A: Please study more than I did – the bold print method only gets you so far!
Q: Do you enjoy being an active member of the Beta Upsilon Chapter alumni network?
A: I do, but I should be more active than I have been.
